Are you interested in promoting physics research and education in Denmark? Would you like to help represent physicists in Denmark and contribute to the growth of physics across Europe?  Do you have ideas about how we can better communicate the wonders and importance of physics to others?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider taking an active role in the Danish Physical Society (DFS: Dansk Fysisk Selskab)!

DFS is Denmark’s national organization to represent the interests of physics and physicists.  DFS represents physicists working in Denmark (regardless of their nationality!) in both national and international organizations such as the European Physical Society.  Our goal is to represent all physicists in Denmark, both privately and publicly employed.  This requires engaged members of DFS who want to contribute to one of the existing sections or to start new sections to better represent the diversity of physics in Denmark.

The articles of association of DFS can be found (in Danish) here.

The Board of the DFS consists of a representative of each section, appointed by the members of the section, and up to four at-large representatives and two alternate representatives chosen by the membership of the DFS.

Representatives are elected for a two-year term.

The current board is:

  • Ian Bearden, Chairman
  • Louise Kindt, Vice chair (section for outreach and education)
  • Hans O. Fynbo, Treasurer – not seeking reelection.
  • Morten Bache (section for atomic, molecular and optical physics)
  • Kristoffer Haldrup (section for condensed matter physics) – not seeking reelection.
  • Maren Malling (section for women in physics, KIF)
  • Lau Blom Grøndahl (section for physics students in Denmark, FSID)
  • Jørgen Beck Hansen (section for nuclear and particle physics)

Practical information:

The election will be held electronically on 28.10.2023.

The deadline for nominations is 7.10.2023.

Candidate nominations should be sent by e-mail to: mail@danskfysiskselskab.dk

DFS members can nominate others or themselves.

Each nomination must be signed by three DFS members and the nominee.  A member may nominate several candidates, including themselves.

If there are more than four candidates for at-large representative, the election will be held electronically.

The new board will assume responsibility for the DFS at the end of the 2023 DFS General Assembly on the 13th of November 2023 at Hotel Nyborg Strand.
